I was once reading The Yellow Wallpaper (and I think it’s time I re-read it) and when my friend’s fiance saw it his reaction was “That book’s about hating men isn’t it?” hurr hurr I believe at the time I just shrugged (as I wasn’t really sure of its relation to feminism at the time) but it’s interesting how society can teach people that the core of feminism is just misandry and that any text that may in some form have a feminist description attached to it automatically equals that it’s a text that’s nothing but “man bashing.”  I think what made this statement particularly suprising is the fact that I’ve actually had some discussions with him and he has ideals that are probably more progressive and feminist than he realizes.
